    Movie Review

    Movie: "The Golden Compass"
    Stars: 3.5 out of 4
Quick Summary: It was exciting, well acted, wonderful and believable special effects, and fairly faithful to the story. It could have been longer (it was less than 2 hours), which would have made it better.

    The Forest Again
After a very, very, very long hiatus, Filk Time has returned!!! Our performers have been very busy with other projects lately, mainly preparing for their final book performance in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which made it's debut about a month ago. So, fresh from their triumphant book tour, our performers are back and ready to go with some more filks. Tonight we have a selection from that book, so in the interest of being fair to those who may not have finished yet (and surprisingly, there are some people like that out there) the rest of the introduction, and the filk, will be placed behind the cut. So please, enjoy the show (tissues and hankies are available in the lobby).

Current Mood: sad: this song is depressing
Current Music: Lily's Eyes from The Secret Garden (will be filking soon)

I had hoped to have another filk written before the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, but with all that's gone on in the past few weeks/months, I was unable to. However, Embledore's Filk Song Army would like to perform an encore presentation of a previously released song. Its subject matter is one of great relevancy, seeing as it has to do with the release of book 7. Feel free to print a transcript of tonight's performance to carry with you and sing Friday night at the bookstore. We are making this episode part of the public domain. Tonight's song will be performed by a group of Harry Potter fans, and will be sung to the tune of "Last Stand" by Harry Chapin. So, we hope you enjoy the song, and the book!

    One...er...Two Days More
Well, friends, here we are: just slightly more than 2 days before what I am sure is the most anticipated day in book history (considering the number of people on the planet). In two days, it will all be over: the wait, and the series. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about, but I shall mention it anyway (and use another colon): Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released in approximately 49 hours. I am of course feeling a mixture of jubilation and dread. I don't want it to end, but I want to know what happens. Well, both of those things will happen soon. My biggest fear at the moment is spoilers, so after a post I make directly following this one (and an attempt at a movie review if I have time tomorrow), I will be swearing off the internet until I finish the book. Although I live in fear of all media, and in fact all human contact, until have turned the final page of the Deathly Hallows, that is not really an option so I will spend my time prepared to close my eyes and cover my ears concerning anything that sounds like it could be related to Harry Potter. Not an easy feat, I tell you.

Anyway, to the real purpose of this post. Below you will find a link to my full predictions for the seventh book in that most wonderful series. Please feel free to peruse them (or avoid them) as you see fit. I hope you have all taken some time to at least jot down your own predictions. Please note that I expect to be bragging about a few things come next week. I would like to point out one thing, however. Although I have stated that I believe Harry will survive, I would like to mention my one prediction that I've made for several years now, on the off chance that it does come true. If it is not true and Harry lives, I will not brag too much, as I expect it. But if my following prediction is correct, expect me to be quite obnoxious about it. So here it goes: Harry will die and the last chapter of the book will be The Man Who Died. For the record.

So, I hope you all enjoy the book when you get a chance to read it, and I sincerely hope no one spoils it for any of us. Remember these last two days as unique ones in history. Never again will the world not know how the story ends. We are at a turning point in history, and think how fortunate you are to be here. As Rubeus Hagrid once said, "What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does." And with that I add, "I'll see you on the flip side of the book." So long for now!

    Sad News
Well, there has been some sad news in my family. My grandfather passed away this morning. It was a little expected (he'd been doing pretty poorly the past few weeks), and considering the circumstances, things went about as easily as they could go. This week is going to be a little crazy for me because my mom and dad are in Tampa taking care of everything and I have to take care of the horses and dog at their house. So, I was there last night, I'm at my parents' tonight, I'll be going to work tomorrow, staying at my parents' again tomorrow night, picking my brother up from the airport Tuesday morning, driving to Tampa, back to Orlando Tuesday night, back to Tampa Wednesday morning (the service is Wed afternoon), probably back to Orlando Wednesday night. After that, I'm not really sure what's going on. Somehow my brother will need to get back to Orlando Thurs night so he can get his flight back on Friday morning, and we're supposed to go see The Producers in Melbourne Thursday night (I hope I can still make it, I've been waiting to see it for almost a year). So, like I said, crazy times.

I wanted to thank everyone who was supposed to come to my party this past weekend for their kind words and their understanding. I'm trying to reschedule, so look to your emails for a message (in fact you'll probably read the email before you read this). So, thanks again.

    More Predictions
Well, here is an updated list of my predictions from "The Ultimate Deathly Hallows Prediction Exam" that's on The Leaky Cauldron. It includes part 2, which was posted last week. Again, I highly recommend taking some time to fill out the exam, so you'll know how good your prediction were when the book comes out. Otherwise, there's no proof, and you have no right to brag, no matter how good you did. So...GO NOW!!!

    Deathly Hallow Predictions
The Leaky Cauldron (www.the-leaky-cauldron.org) is featuring their "Ultimate Deathly Hallows Prediction Test". It is a several part quiz that asks multiple choice questions about your predictions for Book VII. I recommend taking it, as it will catalog your predictions for you so you can brag when it turns out you were right. It saves them under your email address, and they're going to be giving away prizes to the best diviners when the book comes out. So, go check it out and fill it out.

Below is the link to my responses for the first part. Keep in mind that I tried to answer the questions as to how I think the book will turn out, rather than how I want it to turn out. For example, I think Harry will live and Ron will die, but if one of them *had* to die, I'd prefer it to be Harry, rather than Ron. So, enjoy reading my predictions, and go now and make your own!!!

Last night before I go home
Well, this really is the last night at my parent's house before I move into my own. Yes, I am now officially a "home-owner" (well, I don't actually own it outright, I do have to pay a mortgage, but for all intents and purposes, I own the house). I closed on the house (after many problems) Wednesday morning, and will be moving the rest of my stuff in tomorrow. So, tomorrow night will be my first night in MY house. It feels kinda weird. The only time I've lived alone was for 4 months my last semester of college, so this will definately be a new experience. I do really like the house, and its 10 minutes from work, so I'll now have an extra 2 hours added to my life everyday, so that will really be great. There is lots to do to make the house my home: all the walls are white, so there will be much painting going on, and lots of furniture to make, but there's no rush, I've got all the time in the world.

As a wise Vorlon once said "And so it begins..." And truly it does. Another step to take on this journey through life, and one I didn't take kicking and screaming. I've been looking forward to this for a long time, and I can't wait to begin. I finally feel like a real person: I have a job, a car, and now a house. And although I have all these things, and you can say it as many times as you want, I will never consider myself a "grown-up". I'm just a mature and very responsible kid, and that will never change.

So, I will say goodnight for the last time from my parent's house, and the next time you hear from me will be from my own house. I won't have internet for a few days, but when I get back on-line, I'll tell you all (or at least my close, personal friends) where you can reach me. And I still have my cell if you want to talk before then.

    Goodnight!

    Stupid Bank
Well, it looks like I spoke too soon. If I really believed in jinxes, I'd say my post last night jinxed me. I'm not closing on the house tomorrow. I will be closing on Monday, which really sucks because I was planning on moving in this weekend, and now I can't really move in until next weekend (though, I'll be sleeping there all week). So, banks suck (them not making sure I gave them everything they needed (if you don't tell me you need it, how can I know to provide it?) are the reason I'm not closing tomorrow. Anyway, Monday's the day, only a few more to go!

    Big News
Well, I suppose it's time to tell my friends on LiveJournal the big news. I want you all to know that since you're my friends, you're the first to know (not counting, of course, my family, one of my friends who doesn't have an LJ, some people at work, and some random person I met at a party when I was visiting my brother). But aside from them, I'm telling you first: As of this time Friday, I will be a homeowner. I should be signing the closing papers and picking up the keys to my very own house Friday morning or afternoon. In a couple of months (there's a lot of painting to do) I will be having the first of what I hope will be many parties (mostly of the movie persuasion), and you all will be invited (those of you I actually know of course; to any of the random people who may be reading this: sorry, but you're not invited, you're just not cool enough to hang out with us, now don't feel too bad, most people aren't cool enough; I'm sure you'll find some other way to occupy your time). Anyway, so there will be parties in the future, and you're all welcome to come hang out any time you want (unless I say you can't). I will be sending out an email with my new address and phone number after I move in, that way you'll all know where to send the house-warming gifts.

Well, that was the news. I have now joined (or will join, in a couple of days) the millions of Americans who are and will be in debt for many, many years. But, at least I'll be having fun, and living nice while I'm at it. So, now back to packing. I am signing off from what will probably be the last update to this LJ from my parents house. And to them I say: So long and thanks for all the fish.

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Well, I've been watching the show for about 2 months now, so I suppose it is time to post on the latest from Aaron Sorkin: Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I've had a long day, so I don't expect this will be very coherent, but I'll do my best. It is a bit long and a little ramble-y, so I've put it behind a cut.

"Can't you see I love my pancreas?"
The new "Weird Al" CD came out yesterday, and I have to say he's still got it. So: "He's still got it." Even the few song parodies, of which I didn't know the original song, were good. There were a couple of "eh...they were ok" songs, but he usually has a few of them. The Green Day parody was excellent, though I know the original pretty well, so its still hard not to sing the original lyrics. That will fade with time. A few of his originals were very funny, and he seems to be following a "tradition" he set with his "Running With Scissors" CD by having a really long song, that kinda tells a story, but is more like him rambling on about something random. It began with "Albuquerque", continued to a lesser extent with "Genius in France" (from "Poodle Hat") but came back in full-force with "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" from "Straight Outta Lynwood". This one I enjoyed much more than "Genius in France", and was almost as good as "Albuquerque".

Oh...and I'd like to say, for the record, that as soon as I heard the first few seconds of "Pancreas", I knew that it had to be, if not an actual parody, at least as a style-parody of something from Brian Wilson's "Smile" album. It turned out to not be an actual parody (those he notes in the CD booklet by each title), but I'm absolutely convinced that it's a style-parody (there is no way it's not, just listen to the song, and to "Smile" and you'll get it). Plus, Brian Wilson is mentioned in the Acknowledgments, so I'm pretty sure I'm right. Tell everyone you read it here first!!

So, check out "Straight Outta Lynwood" by "Weird Al" Yankovic, and you too can hear classic lines like:

->"I sued Verizon...'cause I get all depressed any time my cell phone is roaming
I sued Colorado...'cause you know, I think it looks a little bit too much like Wyoming"
    ("I'll Sue You")

->"They all live on donuts and moose meat/And they leave the house without packing heat/Never even bring their guns to the mall." ("Canadian Idiot")

->"My pancreas attracts every other pancreas in the universe/With a force proportional to the product of their masses/And inversely proportional to the distance between them."
